Statement in Support of Block the Bombs Legislation
“As Israel launches a ground invasion into Gaza City, innocent civilians and the remaining Israeli hostages are at immense risk. This act of aggression is not necessary to ensure Israel’s security; rather it’s yet another step toward prolonging a war that only serves the political agendas of Benjamin Netnayahu and his extreme far-right allies. I stand with the advocates for peace, including many from the Jewish community, who support the “Block the Bombs” legislation, a bill which puts common-sense guardrails around the use of offensive arms supplied to Israel by the United States. We cannot deny the stark reality that weapons paid for by our tax dollars are advancing Netanyahu’s agenda and forcing the displacement of millions without consideration for children or the elderly. To date, more than 50,000 civilians in Gaza have been killed in this war, 20,000 of whom are children. This ground invasion also prolongs the suffering of Israeli hostages and their families, and continues the incredible strain on Israeli’s defense forces and civilians. It is wrong, and as a nation we cannot continue to be complicit in the Netanyahu government’s crimes.”
