Homes for All, as a Human Right
America has a severe housing shortage, and families are paying the price while hedge funds and investors cash in. Effie will push for a national effort to build 5 million new homes over ten years, with 66,000 right here in NY-17, including permanently affordable housing. She will ban hedge funds from buying single-family homes, cap rent increases at 2% on subsidized housing, and provide up to $50,000 in cash assistance for first-time homebuyers, so families can stay, grow, and build generational wealth.
Childcare
No Family Should Go Broke Just to Raise Their Kids
When childcare costs $2,000 a month per child, the system is failing parents by design. Effie will fight to guarantee childcare from birth through kindergarten, with universal, school-based childcare starting at age one, universal Pre-K, and one year of parental leave, including six months paid. Her plan reflects a simple truth: raising families should be supported by our society, not punished by the economy.
Healthcare
Healthcare Should Heal You, Not Bankrupt You
Insurance denials, soaring premiums, and medical debt put profits over people. Effie supports Medicare for All because healthcare is a human right. Her plan eliminates deductibles and surprise bills, covers mental health, dental, vision, long-term care and reproductive freedom, and ensures no one has to choose between medicine and rent or face bankruptcy for getting sick.
Environment
Protecting Our Health, Powering Our Communities
Effie will fight to ban “forever chemicals,” invest in research to clean up PFAS, and block developments that threaten our water supply. She will incentivize local micro-grids and community solar to bypass corporate monopolies and lower Con Ed bills. Effie will prevent energy-draining data centers and push for green technology instead of fossil fuels and nuclear. By securing federal grants for zero-emission buses, she will eliminate diesel pollution and create local green-energy jobs that strengthen our communities.
Tax Fairness
You Should Not Pay Higher Tax Rates Than Billionaires
The tax system is rigged to favor the ultra-wealthy while working families shoulder the load. Effie will repeal the $3 trillion giveaway to the rich, impose a wealth tax of 3% on fortunes over $50 million and 6% over $1 billion. She’ll work to close offshore loopholes, and ensure corporations finally pay their fair share so that all Americans, not just corporations and the wealthy, are able to thrive.
Immigration
End the Fear. Protect Families.
Trump’s ICE terrorizes communities with aggressive raids, often targeting legal residents, while enriching for-profit detention centers. Effie will defund ICE, close detention centers, and ban family separation. She will champion humane immigration reform that creates a path to citizenship for Dreamers and long-term, taxpaying immigrants, and she’ll hold exploitative employers accountable. Effie puts humanity over cruelty and profit.
Advancing Peace Abroad
Human Rights have No Boundaries
Effie supports Palestinian freedom, equality, and self-determination, and calls for an end to Israel’s occupation and illegal settlements. She is the first candidate in this race to support the Block the Bombs legislation, because American tax dollars should never fund foreign military aid that violates U.S. law or international human rights standards.
American Democracy
By the People, Not the Highest Bidder
Effie believes democracy only works when elected officials answer to voters, not donors. Her campaign refuses corporate PAC and AIPAC money, and she will fight to overturn Citizens United so government works for everyday people, not entrenched power. And she’ll fight to ensure that hard-won civil rights for all Americans are protected and enforced.
